Tribute – Helen Saunders

It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of my good friend Helen Saunders, a small lady with an outsize personality. Helen was an active CAMRA member for most of her adult life and many will remember her frequently working behind the bar at London beer festivals, especially the GBBF and her local festival, Battersea, where we acquired a set of small steps to help her to serve beer from the upper stillage! Helen was an NHS scientist and, having been born in Carmarthen, a passionate fan of Welsh rugby. She was also a keen bridge player and organised regular games at the Royal Oak in Borough, especially on London Drinker pick-up Wednesdays when her husband, Colin, would join us to take Helen, the magazines and sometimes myself home in their car. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
