Phil passed away on 17 November aged 65. He was West Middlesex CAMRA public affairs officer for over a decade, Brewery Liaison Officer for Acton breweries and was on the national campaigns committee. An Ealing councillor from 1984 to 2006, Phil was very proud to have been the millennium mayor when a special beer was brewed in his honour at the Photographer & Firkin (now the Drapers Arms). He had chaired the council’s finance committee and later licensing panels. A life-long resident of East Acton, his other public work included being a governor of John Perryn Primary School (which he attended), a lay member of the NHS Ealing Clinical Commissioning Group, a director of the Acton Community Forum and a trustee of the Acton (Middlesex) Charities. He had a particular interest in psephology, both in the UK and the US, and in analysing census data. Phil’s funeral at Mortlake on 12 December was well attended by CAMRA and members of the local Labour party. This was followed by a wake at the West London Trades’ Union Club, where he had been a member and strong advocate.
