The next release from CAMRA Books is called Cask, written by Des de Moor, well known to readers as the author of London’s Best Beer, Pubs and Bars. This enlightening and entertaining book tells the story of cask ale, describing the ups and downs of Britain’s unique beer culture from its traditional artisanal roots through the fight for preservation in the face of industrialised homogeneity and the craft revolution of the early 21st century. It takes a close look at the way that brewers, consumers and the hospitality trade regard cask beer today, dispensing with numerous myths along the way. Moreover, it examines why real ale is worth saving. Des explains, “Just as beer has shed its role as an everyday drink for all and became an optional treat, so cask beer has dwindled in its home country to the extent that it’s just another speciality among many – albeit one important enough to write a book about.”
The book will be released on 1 August. It can be pre-ordered now on-line from CAMRA Books at https://shop1.camra.org.uk/ or you can pick up a copy at the Great British Beer Festival. There will be a discount for CAMRA members.
