Paw passed away 31 October having suffered an extremely aggressive form of dementia. He was a member of the West Middlesex branch committee for many years. He was the branch’s first clubs officer and later took on part of the pubs officer role. His ability to talk to anyone, with the eventual aim of selling them a Good Beer Guide or getting them to attend the Ealing Beer Festival, was much missed this year.
He always travelled everywhere by bike and was easily recognised by his hat. He always carried a notebook, noting down each beer he drank, so it is no surprise that he was one of the branch’s biggest beer scorers.
Born in Queen Charlotte’s Hospital on 29 June 1961 to Polish parents, he graduated from the LSE with a Geography degree in 1982 where he first joined CAMRA. He was head of Geography at a school in Harlesden where he had taught since 1988. Paw would spend every August making the pilgrimage to Poland and was involved with various Polish societies as well as St Johns Ambulance covering Cheslea matches. The funeral took place at Our Lady of the Visitation Church in Greenford on 24 November followed by a wake at Trailfinders Sports Ground, West Ealing. CAMRA was well represented with more than a dozen in attendance. We send our condolences to his twin brother, Piotr, who spent a lot of time caring for him, as well as other family and friends.
