{"id":688,"date":"2019-11-25T19:36:20","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T19:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=688"},"modified":"2019-11-25T19:49:39","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T19:49:39","slug":"london-brewery-scene-november-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/index.php\/2019\/11\/25\/london-brewery-scene-november-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"London Brewery Scene &#8211; November 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Greater London Brewery Liaison Co-ordinator, John Paul Adams, takes us through the changes over the last six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NEW BREWERIES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anomaly (New Malden, appeared at Egham BF at Easter, and will be at their summer\none); <strong>Br3wery<\/strong> (Beckenham, first bottled beers available from start of May); <strong>Brithop<\/strong> (Belvedere,\ncuckoo at Franklins in Sussex, added to BIS as widely available around SE\nLondon); <strong>Common Rioters<\/strong> (Plumstead, cuckoo brewing started at <strong>Brew Buddies<\/strong>, available\nlocally in cask and bottles, still looking for own site); <strong>Ealing<\/strong> (Brentford, the\nextension of the <strong>Marko Paolo<\/strong> brewery, beers now available in thieir pub and\nat the taproom); <strong>Goodness<\/strong> (Wood Green,\nafter some years cuckoo brewing, first at Sentinel then House, brewery opened\nin August); <strong>Little Creatures<\/strong> (Kings Cross, a\nlarge American style brewpub with large tanks behind the bar for the beer and\nbrewery by the entrance, started brewing its own beer at the end of May); <strong>London\nFields<\/strong> (London Fields, now open again with rejuvinated on-site taproom although\nbigger brands reportedly still brewed elsewhere, eg Truman?); <strong>Perivale<\/strong> (Perivale,\nappeared as if by magic at Easter with subsequent once a month openings); <strong>Sly\nBeast<\/strong> (Wandsworth, opened on site in the newly opened Ram Inn pub in October); <strong>Wrong\nSide of the Tracks<\/strong> (Catford, bottled only brewery). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CHANGES TO BREWERIES <\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Boxcar<\/strong> (Bethnal Green,\nnow brewing at their new site just along from Old Street brewery); <strong>Brewheadz<\/strong> (Tottenham,\npremises taken over by Ora who are now the main brewers with Brewheadz cuckoo\nbrewing on their original kit, until Brewheadz finally dissolved leaving just\nOra); <strong>Bianca Road<\/strong> (Bermondsey, moved from an industrial estate to two railway arches bang\nin the middle of the Bermondsey Beer Mile); <strong>Muswell\nHillbilly<\/strong> (the ex-Hale kit has been delivered to the unit adjoining the taproom,\nthe new location for the brewery rather than upstairs further along the mews.\nHale are now setting up the new Exale Brewery in Walthamstow). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SUSPENDED\/CLOSED BREWERIES <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alphabeta<\/strong> (Aldgate,\nrestaurant closed in June, future of brewery uncertain but reported in November\nas now bought by original owners); <strong>Big Smoke<\/strong> (Surbiton, moved out\nto Esher); <strong>Brewheadz<\/strong> (Tottenham, closed in September with just Ora remaining at the site); <strong>BrewIT<\/strong> (Fitzrovia,\ncompany dissolved in June, pub about to open again but no brewery, which may\nresurface under a different name but not in London); <strong>Hale<\/strong> (Tottenham,\nhaving sold their brewery to Muswell Hillbillys, reinventing themselves at a\nlarge site in Walthamstow as Exale); <strong>Hop Stuff <\/strong><strong>(<\/strong>Thamesmead, went into (pre-pack?) administration after problems with site\nowners and emerged owned by Molson Coors! No time scale for full re-opening\nthat I have heard of); <strong>Kentish<\/strong><strong>\nTown<\/strong> (Kentish\n Town, brewing suspended for\na year whilst brewer on sabbatical in Australia); <strong>Lonesome<\/strong> (Streatham,\nconfirmed as dissolved in December 2017); <strong>Portobello @\nGeorge &amp; Dragon<\/strong> (Acton,\nreported that Portobello has left, the kit needs repairing and reverted to the\nDragonfly brewery ready to be pimped out); <strong>Project 88 <\/strong><strong>(<\/strong>Willesden Green, brewer left, possibly taking his kit with him, beers now\nbrewed by Hop Kettle of Swindon); <strong>Redchurch<\/strong> (Bethnal Green,\nanother (pre-pack?) administration with the HQ now at the Harlow brewery and\nbrewing suspended at Bethnal Green, kit soon to be in use by Sundays Brewery\nand BIS record moved to East Anglia); <strong>Two Finches<\/strong> (Finchley, a\nvisit revealed it has not brewed for some time but no confirmation if kit\nremoved); <strong>UBrew<\/strong> (Bermondsey, reported closed in September after various problems through\nthis year). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PLANNED BREWERIES <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Brockley<\/strong> (Lee, second\nbigger brewery to take pressure off Brockley site and taproom, opening late November);\n<strong>Exale<\/strong> (Walthamstow, version 2.0 of Hale); <strong>Fearless\nNomad<\/strong> (Brentford, kit delivered to the Black Dog in April with test brewing due\nto start in July, still no sign by November); <strong>Jawbone <\/strong>(Strawberry Hill, building work on premisis started in July); <strong>Jiddlers\nTipple<\/strong> (Wood Green, home brewer announced going commercial in July but contract\nbrewing elsewhere for the moment); <strong>Pinnora<\/strong> (Pinner, reported\nto be test brewing and still nothing by November); <strong>Plum\nTree<\/strong> (Plumstead, new micropub with long term plans to include a brewery at the\nrear); <strong>Sambrooks<\/strong> (Battersea, announced plans to move into the revamped Ram Quarter in\nWandsworth to be joined by the private Ram brewery already on site); <strong>Second\nWave<\/strong> (West Norwood, test brewing on new kit and still nothing by November); <strong>Signature<\/strong> (planning to move\nto a new site in Walthamstow, opening late November); <strong>Sundays<\/strong> (Bethnal Green,\nex-Redchurch brewer using the ex-Redchurch brewery but no beers yet); <strong>Truman<\/strong> (announced plans\nto move to a new site in Walthamstow and also a brewpub in the East End near\ntheir spiritual home); <strong>Urban Alchemy<\/strong> (New Barnet,\nappeared at the E&amp;B AGM with big plans but nothing since). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>John Paul Adams<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greater London Brewery Liaison Co-ordinator, John Paul Adams, takes us through the changes over the last six months.
