The Half Moon in Herne Hill [10 Half Moon Lane, London SE24 9HU] is this year\u2019s winner of The Griffin Trophy \u2013 the annual Pub of the Year competition from Fuller, Smith and Turner. The pub, run by Matthew Dutson, won the top prize ahead of nearly 400 other Fuller\u2019s pubs. The Half Moon epitomises what makes Fuller\u2019s pubs stand out from the rest \u2013 fresh food, quality drinks, an amazing and outstanding customer service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuller\u2019s Chairman Michael Turner said: \u201cThis is a well-earned award for Matt and I\u2019m delighted to be presenting it to him. The Half Moon is a stunning pub steeped in cultural history and at the heart of its local community. Fuller\u2019s acquired the site in 2016 after it was damaged by flooding. With some local opposition to Fuller\u2019s plans for the pub, we faced some challenges when refurbishing The Half Moon, but Matt and his team worked hard to be a part of the local community. Meetings were held with neighbours before the pub opened to ensure local residents were included in the plans.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe pub was beautifully restored and is even more impressive than before \u2013 with some of its original features still in place. The pub boasts 12 beautiful bedrooms, named after the 12 men who have walked on the moon, including Armstrong \u2013 the largest bedroom in the Fuller\u2019s estate. The Half Moon is now not only loved by locals \u2013 including those who were sceptical \u2013 but by visitors from far and wide. Frequent events at near-by Brockwell Park means the pub is now on the radar of those not so familiar with South London too.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Half Moon has three bar \nareas, a dining area, a large garden \u2013 with its own bar \u2013 and a separate \nfunction room that can be hired out for private events. As well as serving a \ngreat selection of cask ales, craft beers and premium wines and spirits, The \nHalf Moon offers a delicious selection of dishes on its menu \u2013 and is open for \nbreakfast, lunch and dinner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following an extensive \nselection process, the eight finalists of The Griffin Trophy were visited by \nChairman Michael Turner, Chief Executive Simon Emeny, and Corporate Affairs \nDirector Richard Fuller to choose the overall winner. The result was announced \nat a ceremony held at Brewers\u2019 Hall [Aldermanbury Square, London EC2V 7HR] on \nThursday 21 November.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt Dutson, Manager of The \nHalf Moon, said: \u201cI am really chuffed with winning this award \u2013 it\u2019s a fantastic \nsurprise. My team and I have been on quite a journey with The Half Moon \u2013 so I\u2019d \nlike to thank them, and our customers, for making my pub a truly special place.\u201d \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prize for the winning pub comprises a \u00a35,000 holiday, a staff party, an engraved plaque and the coveted Griffin Trophy itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
