{"id":6666,"date":"2026-09-29T17:59:04","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T17:59:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=6666"},"modified":"2026-09-29T17:59:04","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T17:59:04","slug":"coach-horses-reopens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/index.php\/2026\/09\/29\/coach-horses-reopens\/","title":{"rendered":"Coach &amp; Horses reopens"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cover photo<\/strong>: this edition\u2019s cover photo is of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/coach-horses-london-128690\">Coach &amp; Horses<\/a><\/strong> in Hill Street, Mayfair which reopened after refurbishment on 25 August.\u00a0 It is said to be the oldest surviving pub in Mayfair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"895\" src=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-21-1024x895.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-21-1024x895.png 1024w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-21-300x262.png 300w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-21-767x671.png 767w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-21-1536x1343.png 1536w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-21.png 1768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You have to admire Shepherd Neame. &nbsp;Not only have they spent a significant amount of money on refurbishing this pub but, on its reopening, they made use of the pub&#8217;s name in a way I had not expected.&nbsp; As I turned into Hill Street there were two large black horses hitched to a coach, with a well dressed team ready to take attendees on a short trip around the block. &nbsp;Yours truly did not take advantage of this but I did enjoy a pint or two of Shep&#8217;s beer, in my case Whitstable Bay Pale Ale.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-20.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-20.png 750w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-20-300x213.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Close to Berkeley Square, the Coach &amp; Horses dates from 1744 and is Grade II listed.&nbsp; It also rates one star on CAMRA\u2019s inventory of historic pub interiors.&nbsp; It is by no means a large pub but Sheps have refreshed both the interior and the exterior, with new decor and furniture along with a lovely new handcrafted swing pub sign plus a very smart new traditional red Lantern. &nbsp;There&#8217;s a small, heated and covered outside area for food and drink; the new food offering features as a speciality flatbreads and charcuterie boards. &nbsp;As you enter the pub and turn left, go past the bar and you will find a snug area with plenty of seating.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"336\" height=\"605\" src=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-22.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6671\" srcset=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-22.png 336w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-22-167x300.png 167w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also salute Shepherd Neame for the money that they have spent recently on their London pubs (as well as others outside London) and their continuing support of cask beer. \u00a0I recommend that you head to Mayfair to see what&#8217;s been done to the Coach &amp; Horses.
