It has a strong pedigree, having won the West Midlands regional award for three consecutive years. Unusually, it also features an in-house microbrewery. CAMRA\u2019s Club of the Year coordinator, Phil Gregg, commented, \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be announcing a first-time winner and the Firs Club epitomises what\u2019s great about UK venues like these and how important they are to their local communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d2s8km3brsjp0y.cloudfront.net\/eyJidWNrZXQiOiJ3aGF0cHViIiwia2V5IjoiV0xWXC9XTFYrMjk3NC0xNjM3MDUtMTYxMy05MDguanBnIiwiZWRpdHMiOnsicmVzaXplIjp7IndpZHRoIjoxNjEzLCJoZWlnaHQiOjkwOCwiZml0IjoiY292ZXIifX19\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>YOUNG MEMBERS\u2019 EVENTS<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wednesday 9 April: tour of Twickenham Fine Ales brewery. Ever wondered how beer is made? Why it is such a crafted product and needs such care and nurturing? Or just why it tastes so good? Well, find out on our Twickenham Fine Ales brewery tour. The tour lasts two hours, during which you will find out all about making beer and running a small brewery while drinking three pints and getting a branded glass to take home too. There is a charge but CAMRA Young Members will receive a 20% discount. See the advert on page 25 for details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Navindh Baburam<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BROMLEY BRANCH PUB AND CLUB OF THE YEAR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAMRA\u2019s Bromley branch have chosen the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/cockpit-chislehurst-128300\">Cockpit<\/a> <\/strong>in Chislehurst as their branch Pub of the Year for the third year in succession. The runner up was the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/one-inn-the-wood-petts-wood-128208\">One Inn the Wood<\/a><\/strong> in Petts Wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d2s8km3brsjp0y.cloudfront.net\/eyJidWNrZXQiOiJ3aGF0cHViIiwia2V5IjoiQlJPXC9CUk8rMTUxNDEtMTI0OTY2LTI0MDAtMTgwMC5qcGciLCJlZGl0cyI6eyJyZXNpemUiOnsid2lkdGgiOjIwMDAsImhlaWdodCI6MTUwMCwiZml0IjoiY292ZXIifX19\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Also not for the first time and, as ever, well deserved, the branch Club of the Year award has gone to the <a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/orpington-liberal-club-orpington-128204\"><strong>Orpington Liberal Club<\/strong><\/a>. This is their thirteenth successive win. A CAMRA membership card will usually gain you admittance and you can expect to find up to five cask beers, often from local breweries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EAST LONDON BRANCH AWARDS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAMRA\u2019s East London &amp; City branch have announced their pub and club awards for 2025. Their Pub of the Year is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/olde-mitre-hatton-garden-156323\">Ye Olde Mitre<\/a><\/strong> in Hatton Garden. Their Cider Pub of the Year is the <a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/chesham-arms-homerton-156176\"><strong>Chesham Arms<\/strong><\/a> in Homerton  and the Club of the Year is an old favourite, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/leyton-orient-supporters-club-leyton-155089\">Leyton Orient Supporters Club<\/a><\/strong>. The winners now go forward to their respective Greater London regional competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d2s8km3brsjp0y.cloudfront.net\/eyJidWNrZXQiOiJ3aGF0cHViIiwia2V5IjoiRUxDXC9FTEMrMTQ2NjktMTQzODM5LTI0MDAtMTc5OS5qcGciLCJlZGl0cyI6eyJyZXNpemUiOnsid2lkdGgiOjIwMDAsImhlaWdodCI6MTQ5OSwiZml0IjoiY292ZXIifX19\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SOUTH EAST LONDON DISTRICT WINNERS<\/strong><br>To decide on their branch pub of the year, CAMRA\u2019s South East London branch first select winners from each of four districts within the branch. This year these are: SE1 postal district \u2013 The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/royal-oak-london-158404\">Royal Oak<\/a><\/strong>, Borough; Lambeth and Southwark (excluding SE1) \u2013 The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/mayflower-rotherhithe-158608\">Mayflower<\/a><\/strong>, Rotherhithe; Greenwich \u2013 The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/park-tavern-eltham-158814\">Park Tavern<\/a><\/strong>, Eltham and Lewisham \u2013 The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/dog-bell-deptford-158798\">Dog &amp; Bell<\/a><\/strong>, Deptford. Winning a district award is an achievement in itself, so congratulations to them all. The members of the branch then go on to select a winner from these four but anyone voting is expected to visit all four pubs. That should however not be too arduous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WEST LONDON BRANCH PUB OF THE YEAR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition was very close this year. The winner was the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/cask-pub-kitchen-london-128694\">Cask Pub &amp; Kitchen<\/a><\/strong> in Pimlico. The joint runners up, on equal points, were the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/star-tavern-london-128650\">Star Tavern<\/a><\/strong> in Belgravia and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/harp-london-128660\">Harp<\/a> <\/strong>in Charing Cross. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/antelope-london-128649\">Antelope<\/a><\/strong> in Belgravia was just a point behind. Congratulations are due to Fuller\u2019s for three of their pubs being included in the top four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d2s8km3brsjp0y.cloudfront.net\/eyJidWNrZXQiOiJ3aGF0cHViIiwia2V5IjoiV0xEXC9XTEQrMTU5NjItMTQ3MDUyLTIzNzYtMTc4Mi5qcGciLCJlZGl0cyI6eyJyZXNpemUiOnsid2lkdGgiOjIwMDAsImhlaWdodCI6MTUwMCwiZml0IjoiY292ZXIifX19\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NORTH LONDON BRANCH WINTER PUB OF THE SEASON<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A hidden gem in Bloomsbury has finally been recognised. CAMRA\u2019s North London branch has awarded its Winter Pub of the Season award to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/camra.org.uk\/pubs\/duke-london-125483\">Duke<\/a><\/strong> in Roger Street, Bloomsbury.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"751\" height=\"402\" src=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-14.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-14.png 751w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/image-14-300x161.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Colin (left) with Bill and Maddie<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Branch chair Colin Coyne said, \u201c<em>Concealed down a back street, this pub is often overlooked but it\u2019s a real gem. We are absolutely delighted to be making this award to the Duke for its beer and friendly ambience. This is in recognition to the great strides that Bill, Maddie and their team have made in the quality of their beer since they took over in 2023. The Duke is a pub that takes everyone by surprise. It\u2019s Grade II listed and is an amazing example of an Art Deco interior that dates from 1938. It\u2018s a real rarity, showing what many inter-war pubs would have looked like.
