The certificate was presented to bar manager Mark Harrison at their October ale night on 26 October by CAMRA\u2019s regional director for Greater London Regional, Ellie Eames.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"746\" height=\"497\" src=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-34.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4072\" srcset=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-34.png 746w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-34-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 746px) 100vw, 746px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The club has won many CAMRA awards over the years, including a CAMRA 50th Anniversary Golden Award. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the club normally opens before and after Orient home games, plus there are a number of ale nights held throughout the year. You will need to show your CAMRA membership card if using the bar before a home game. The next ale night will be on Thursday 14 December where the beers will be from Mighty Oak Brewery. The full address is the Breyer Group Stadium, Oliver Road, Leyton.<br><strong><em>Andy Kinch<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>REGIONAL CIDER PUB OF THE YEAR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAMRA\u2019s Greater London Region Cider Pub of the Year for 2023 is the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/whatpub.com\/pubs\/ESW\/80068\/hop-inn-micropub-hornchurch\">Hop Inn micropub<\/a><\/strong> in Hornchurch, thus retaining the title from 2021 and 2022. They also took CAMRA\u2019s National Cider &amp; Perry Pub of the Year award in 2022. You can usually find at least ten traditional ciders and perries available.<br>It is owned by Phil Cooke and Alison Taffs and Alison is well known as an advocate for cider, promoting interest in and knowledge of this special drink. The full address is 122\/124 North Street, Hornchurch RM11 1SU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WEST MIDDLESEX BRANCH CIDER AWARD 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s award went to the <a href=\"https:\/\/whatpub.com\/pubs\/MDX\/17026\/owl-the-pussycat-northfields\">Owl &amp; The Pussycat<\/a> in Northfields. The certificate was presented by branch cider officer Stephen Gilmour (left) to co-owner Paul Nock on 23 October.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"745\" height=\"756\" src=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-36.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4074\" srcset=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-36.png 745w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-36-296x300.png 296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 745px) 100vw, 745px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Paul was delighted with the award and said how much it was appreciated, especially given the struggles of the past year. The micropub and brewery serves up to ten real ciders and perries, along with a range of cask beers. The full address is 106 Northfield Avenue, a short walk from Northfields Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GREATER LONDON YOUNG MEMBERS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday 8 November, CAMRA&#8217;s Greater London Young Members group held a social event at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/whatpub.com\/pubs\/SEL\/10507\/royal-oak-london\">Royal Oak<\/a><\/strong> in Tabard Street, a Harvey&#8217;s pub and South East London Branch\u2019s Pub of the Year for 2023. Many of the attendees had never been to the pub before and all who came agreed that the beer was fantastic.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"430\" src=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-37.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4075\" srcset=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-37.png 750w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-37-300x172.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The pub had six Harvey&#8217;s beers on and a particular favourite of the group was this month&#8217;s seasonal beer, Bonfire Boy (5.8% ABV). We also took part in the pub&#8217;s weekly quiz, which was a lot of fun even though we didn&#8217;t win. We plan to visit the pub on quiz night again in the near future. If you enjoy real ale and would like to meet like-minded people for a friendly chat, keep an eye on our Facebook Group: Greater London Young CAMRA Members.<br><strong><em>Joseph Paul<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NATIONAL PUB OF THE YEAR \u2013 THE FINALISTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regional winners in CAMRA\u2019s National Pub of the Year competition were listed in the previous edition. CAMRA\u2019s volunteer judges have now selected a final panel of four, based on their atmosphere, d\u00e9cor, welcome, service, value for money, customer mix and, most importantly, the quality of their beer and cider. They are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Beer Engine, Skipton, Yorkshire BD23 1JD;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nelson Arms, Tonbridge, Kent TN9 1UP;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tamworth Tap, Tamworth, West Midlands B79 7LR;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trafalgar Hotel, Ramsey, Isle of Man IM8 1DW.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/whatpub.com\/pubs\/TAM\/3311\/tamworth-tap-tamworth\">Tamworth Tap<\/a><\/strong>, last year\u2019s winner, is the tap for the Tamworth Brewing Company while the Trafalgar Hotel is the tap for the local Odin Brewery. The Nelson Arms was saved from likely redevelopment by local residents having the pub listed as an Asset of Community Value. The Beer Engine is a canalside micropub. Pubs cannot nominate themselves and there are no fees payable. The winner will be announced in January, hopefully in time to be included in the next edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NATIONAL CIDER PUB OF THE YEAR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s CAMRA National Cider and Perry Pub is the <a href=\"https:\/\/whatpub.com\/pubs\/EXE\/481\/tom-cobley-tavern-spreyton\">Tom Cobley Tavern<\/a> in Spreyton, on the edge of Dartmoor (EX17 5AL). It has been run by Roger and Carol Cudlip, with their daughter Lucy, for over twenty years. It usually has at least twelve ciders and perries available, all conforming to CAMRA\u2019s definition of \u2018real cider\u2019. The pub, which dates from the 16th century, also has plenty of cask beer available, having been CAMRA\u2019s National Pub of the Year in 2006 and a finalist in 2012. It also has a restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pub is named after one of the characters from the traditional Devonian song Widecombe Fair. Sarah Newson, the competition\u2019s organiser, said, \u201c<em>As ever, it is a hard-fought competition with only the very best making the final. The judges were incredibly impressed with the Tom Cobley Tavern and its passion and knowledge for ensuring quality cider and perry is always served. This family-run pub really does offer a warm welcome and it is clear to see the dedication of all involved to ensure it is a pleasure to visit, offering a wonderful welcome with top quality beer and cider on offer<\/em>.\u201d The pub is does not open Monday and Sunday evenings and closes in the afternoon 3pm to 6pm, so plan your visit carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>REGIONAL PUB OF THE YEAR The presentation to the Hope was made on Thursday 2 November.
