The refurbishment gives the pub a light airy feel and the choice of decor and lighting complements the splendid Victorian interior. They had a good range of beers on opening night, including two cask ales on the pumps: Fuller’s London Pride and St Austell Anthem British Pale Ale, plus Rosie’s Pig Rhubarb cloudy (not real) cider. Both ales were in good condition and tasted great! They plan on rotating the cask ales and have selected twelve hand-picked beers which will be available regularly and a seasonal selection of beers from independent breweries such as Signature Brew Backstage IPA, Two Tribes Dream Factory pale ale, Siren Broken Dream breakfast stout and Big Smoke Lucky Spring pale ale. I tried the Signature Back Stage IPA, which is a wonderfully refreshing pale session beer. The food menu is a classic British pub menu offering.

The basement bar is a hidden gem with a great new look. It can be hired for private parties and has a capacity of 100. They can host DJ events, quizzes or almost anything you request. There is a pub quiz on Sundays and a comedy night on Mondays, along with occasional themed quizzes, cabaret and music nights in the downstairs venue. The bar includes a gallery of music posters from the 1990s (some with neon lighting), celebrating the special place this iconic pub had in the 1990s music scene, with bands such as the Chemical Brothers DJ-ing at their Sunday Social Club. The well-designed pendant and wall lighting, along with the seating booths in the alcoves with table lamps, add to the mood and tone.

The full address is 240 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5QU.
