Our congratulations go to Phil Cook and Alison Taffs accordingly.

The Hop Inn, the South West Essex branch Pub of the Year, has now won the Greater London award for the second year running, a feat only previously achieved by the Hope in Carshalton (twice) and the Robin Hood & Little John in Bexley over twenty years ago. Given that it only opened in December 2019, this is a notable achievement. The Hop Inn had already been voted CAMRA’s Regional Cider Pub of the Year, again for the second year running.

Four or five cask beers are normally available and there is a bottle shop, the Hop Shop, next door. The Hop Inn is closed on Mondays and opens 4pm to 10pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2pm to 10.30 Thursdays and Fridays, noon to 10.30 on Saturday and noon to 9pm on Sundays. The full address is 122 North Street, Hornchurch RM11 1SU and the nearest station is Emerson Park, reported to be the least used station on the Overground network. It is on the Romford to Upminster shuttle service. See the pub’s website for further details here.

Both awards will be presented on Monday 17 October (see the branch diaries section).

As mentioned briefly in the previous edition, we are pleased to announce that CAMRA’s Greater London Pub of the Year for 2022 is the Hop Inn micropub in Hornchurch.
