Succinct chapters with excellent accompanying photographs give this book that \u2018coffee table\u2019 feel to it. However, as much as one can dip in and out of this book, with any page capable of holding the reader\u2019s attention, the way the author engages the reader when discussing the tools used by those in marketing and how and why they\u2019ve related to beer branding &#8211; from Bass and Allsops in the late 1800s, right through to the eye watering displays that we see on bars today (mainly in supermarkets for the time being) \u2013 makes this book well worth the reader\u2019s full attention from cover to cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"753\" height=\"843\" src=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Beer-by-Design-frcvr-1-753x1024-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1658\" srcset=\"https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Beer-by-Design-frcvr-1-753x1024-1.jpg 753w, https:\/\/londondrinker.camra.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Beer-by-Design-frcvr-1-753x1024-1-268x300.jpg 268w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The author\u2019s informed and expert explanation of specific tools and tricks used by those in design for marketing and how they can work on us subconsciously was (even for a cynic like me) eye opening. Every accompanying photograph has been carefully chosen and in some cases meticulously broken down to explain each concept. Each chapter exemplifies the fact that whether coming from a global super brewer or a smaller, passionate, \u2018craft\u2019 brewer, there are very few happy accidents in branding when businesses are vying for your money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the author drops enough hints that he clearly enjoys cask ale, I enjoyed the fact that he hasn\u2019t been dogmatic about only discussing \u2018real ale\u2019 but has looked at all beer branding design and this book is all the better for it.
