Further to the article on the Michael James Jackson Foundation for Brewing & Distilling, I am pleased to report that Thornbridge Brewery are brewing a new beer on their Burton Union set in collaboration with the renowned Garrett Oliver, the brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery. The limited edition beer is simply called Strong Dark Mild (5.5% ABV) and Thornbridge describe it as ‘crafted with Maris Otter, premium crystal and chocolate malts and a touch of ancient West African Fonio grain, the beer boasts a creamy body with delicate fruit notes. Dark brewing sugars deepen the flavour profile, adding caramelised complexity and a satisfying richness.’

It was due to be available in Thornbridge’s own outlets and selected free houses across London and the UK from late June. Ten pence of every pint sold will be donated to the MJF. Thornbridge are still planning to open a pub in London, the Wild Swan, 99 Fetter Lane EC4A, this autumn, although there is no definite date yet.
